Solving Proportion Word Problems

Solving Proportion Word Problems:
Solving proportion is the process of setting the two fractions equal to each other, cross-multiplying, and solving the resulting equation.
When one of the four numbers in a proportion is unknown, using the cross product we have to find the unknown number. This is called solving the proportions. Letters or Questions marks are commonly used in place of the unknown number.

Example word problems:

If 3 dollars equals to 1 gallon then find the amounts of gallon for 6 dollars?

Solution
:
Let us 6 dollars equal to 'x' gallon. This could also help us on inverse of a matrix
3/1=6/x
By solving this,
3x= 6
3x/3 = 6/3
x=2.
