Algebra 2 Practice Tests

Introduction to online algebra 2 practice tests:

There are many online tests available for algebra 2. The algebra 2 defined as solving equation like graphs, function, quadratic equations, slope of a line and trigonometric Identities. In algebra we can refer about the quadratic equations and slope. Quadratic equation in which from the second power is the highest degree to which one denotes degree of variable formation is called as quadratic equation. Algebra deals with unknown values called variables, unlike arithmetic which is based entirely on known number values.

Algebra 2 practice test equation of a line:


If the slope m of a line plus a point (x1, y1) on the line are both known, then the equation of the line can be found using the point-slope formula:

(y- y1) = m (x-x1)

Online Algebra 2 practice test problem:

Find the equation of the line in slope- intercept form passes through (-4, 5) with a slope 1/2.

Solution :

slope formula for given points (y - y1) = m(x - x1)

It goes through the point (3, 2) and has a slope of 1/2. So appropriate the information to the point-slope formula gives:

substitute the given values into the formula

(y - 2) = 1/2(x - (3))

(y - 2) = 1/2(x + 3) multiply that (1/2) inside the brackets.

(y - 2) = x/2 + 3/2

y = x/2 +3/2 + 2

y = x/2 + 7/2

The final equation is in the slope-intercept form, which is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

Example for online algebra 2 practice test:


(x + 2)(x + 3) = 0

x + 2 = 0 or x + 3 = 0

x = -2 or x = -3

Therefore, the solution is x = -2, -3

x^2 + 3x +2 = 0  Use quadratic equation to solve this problem.

solution:

formula for quadratic equation x = ( -b ± √ (b^2 - 4ac)) / 2a

Given details are  a = 1

b = 3

c = 2

x = (-3 ± √ (9 - 4(1)(2))) / 2(1)

x = (-3 ± √ ( 9 - 8 )) / 2

x = (-3 ± √ 1) /2

Therefore, the solution is (-3 + √ 1) / 2, (-3 - √ 1) /2

Y Intercept Slope Form

Introduction on y intercept slope form:

If the line passes through the points A (x1, y1) and B (x2, y2) and then its slope is,

Slope (m) = y2-y1/x2-x1.

The slope is defined as the relation between the perpendicular line distance and flat distance between any two points. The slope is denoted by letter ‘m’.

m=y/x where y and x distances between the two points

The point slope equation of a line is,

Y=mx+b

Where x and y is the points, m is the slope and b is the Y-intercept

The Y intercepts are taking place when horizontal values are zero.

Example Problem on Y Intercept Slope Form:

Example 1

Given point (5, 2) and the slope is 4. Find the equation of this line and the Y intercept.

Solution:

Point (5, 2)? (x1, y1)

Slope m= 4.

Equation of the slope point form is

y-y1 = m (x-x1)

y-2=4(x-5)

y-2=4x-20 (using distribute property)

y-2+2=4x-20+2 (Add 2 on both side)

y=4x-18.

Slope m=4. Y intercepts b=-18.

The line of the equation is y=4x-18

Example 2:

Given point (7, 3) and (-2, 5). Find the equation of this line and the Y intercept.

Solution:

Points (7, 3) ? (x1, y1)

(-2, 5) --- > (X2, y2)

To find the equation of line is,

y-y1 = m (x-x1)

Step 1: Take points (7, 3) (-2, 5)

Slope m = y2-y1/ x2-x1

m=5-3/-2-7 ? 2/-9

Step 2: Now take slope m=-2/9 and point (-2, 5)

y-y1 = m (x-x1)

y-5=-2/9(x-(-2))

Step 3: Simplification

y-5=-2/9x+4/9 (Using distributive property)

y-5+5=-2/9x+0.44+5 (Add 5 on both side)

y=-2/9x+5.44.

The equation is in slope intercept form

Slope m=-2/9 and Y intercept b=5.44

The line of equation is y=-2/9x+5.44

Example3

Find the Y intercepts of the function f(x) =3.5x+25.

Solution:

To find the Y intercept, plug x=0

F (0) = 3.5(0)+25

=25

This means the Y intercepts taking place at (0, 25)

Example 4:

Find the Y intercepts of the function f(x) =1.2x+3.5

Solution:

To find the Y intercept, plug x=0

F(0)=1.2(0)+3.5

=3.5

This means the Y intercepts taking place at (0, 3.5)

Point Slope Formula

Introduction

Point slope form of a line is mainly used to graph the linear equation. The point slope form mainly needs slope m and a point P ( X1, Y1) Any straight line can be obtained if we know the slope and the any point which lies on it. Generally point slope form is used when we are aware of only single point and a slope m. Any straight line can be graphed on the X and Y axis using the Point slope form.  Many equations can be graphed with the help of this form of line.  And several other points may also be traced which lie on the same line.

Examples Based on Point Slope Formula

Standard  point slope equation

The standard point slope of equation is given by :

Y  - Y 1    =    m (  X -X1 )

(x, y) = coordinate of any point  and  m is the slope,  (X1, Y1)  = x and y coordinates of the given point P (X1, Y1)

When we graph it we get a straight line


Example : You are given the point (4,3) and a slope of 2. Find the equation for this line in point slope form.

solution :   Just plug the given values into your point-slope formula above. The point (4,3) is in the form of (x1,y1). That means in pleace of  y1, use 3. In place of x1, use 4. Slope is given as  2.So m = 2. So


point slope formula :  Y - Y1  =  m (X-X1)


Y  - 3  = 2 (X-4)


More Practice:  Your point is (-1,5). The slope is 1/2. write the equation that describes this line in point-slope form


point slope formula : Y - Y1 = m (X  - X1)


y - 5  =  1/2 (X-(-1))


y - 5   = 1/2 (X + 1)
